Noh8, But I Can't 'Tolerate' You!

The life-ending choices of other people, you mean? The self-refuting stupidity here is comedy gold. Moral relativism at its finest.

  1. True tolerance doesn't justify standing by and letting people be harmed in ways they didn't consent to. You cannot tolerate harming others, it's certainly not progressive to do so. True liberals are pro-life.

  2. and yet these are the same people who act like the tolerance police and cry about it when things don't go their way.

    1. Agreed. Real rights don't cancel out the rights of others. I'm grateful to socially conservative liberals like you, Jack, who understand that.

    2. Well, I am only socially conservative in some ways. I am pro-gun rights (own two myself), pro-life, and I think that abstinence should be encouraged and that marriage and family is important and should be encouraged as well. I fall more liberal for LGBT rights, environmentalism, all that. I think that socially libertarian is a good way to describe it. Pro-freedom for everyone. I despise the "progressives" who encourage abortion, or euthanasia, or think that a good way to empower women is to damage men, or think that animals rights are more important than humans (I don't eat meat, but of COURSE humans are more important). It's absolutely against the tenents of classical liberalism to encourage harming others, especially helpless babies. I think that the heroes of the Enlightenment are rolling over in their graves because of these people who warped their ideas into something unrecognizable.

    3. Excellent summation. I need reminding sometimes that progressivism bears no resemblance to classic liberalism. True liberals in my opinion value people over ideas, with proggies it's the other way around. It's baffling how the original tenets got so warped so fast, but probably a cursory reading of the history of the last 60 years or so would reveal why. It's not something I ever thought we'd be dealing with on the level we are now in this country. I think it's directly tied to the rise of materialism and prosperity and also entitlements in our country.

The idea of slaves whose only desire was to be free or immigrants who came here on funeral ships seeing what spoiled little brats modern day Americans have become turns my stomach. Can you imagine your kinfolk who were out busting their asses in the fields 12 plus hours a day just to eat spending a day on Twitter and reading what they say? It's unreal.

    4. Exactly. An idea, however noble, cannot be more important than a human being. That was one of the most important things in classic liberalism, the idea that individuals were inherently valuable and equality was important, not for any pc bullshit reasons, but because humans were the basis of society. They have turned that noble cause into some "quality of life" crap, which none of the classic liberals would have recognized. It's maddening that people have stolen a good thing and warped it so horribly. I think you are right about materialism and prosperity contributing. People got spoiled and forgot what was important.
